Running for Africa
The BUPA Great North Run is now in its 33rd year and this year will see the one millionth participant complete the 13.1 miles course from Newcastle to South Shields, raising money for a wide range of charities. Among the 56,000 taking part this year will be one of our Trustees – Richard Burrow. Richard has completed the Run over a dozen times before and will be raising money for the Pearl of Africa. He and his wife Eileen, both aged 61, completed the Run last year. This was a great achievement for Eileen, as it was her first half marathon! Richard is hoping to raise at least £300 through sponsorship so please sponsor him at https://www.justgiving.com/Richard-Burrow1/
Last year the Pearl of Africa Childrens Choir were invited to perform at the Pasta Party that takes place on Gateshead Quayside on the eve of the Run. They went down very well (of course they did!) and have been invited back this year. In addition, a number of the children have been offered places in the Junior Great North Run which takes place on the eve of the adult Run, over 4 kms. We hope to build on this involvement with the Great Run series so that other suppporters of the Pearl of Africa, of whatever age, who are thinking of undertaking any of the Runs will take the opportunity to raise money for our charity.
Richard and Eileen are thinking of a more ambitious project for 2015 – more details to follow in due course!
